    A Fallen Leaf

    A Fallen Leaf

Art is not to be found by touring to Egypt, China, or Peru; if you cannot find it at your own door, you will never find it. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our overnight was in Buffalo, New York not Egypt China or Peru. The view out my window in the morning showed overcast skies and a light rain. With weather like this I can hear a voice whispering an invitation to sleep in a little longer and I did. After eating a light breakfast the rain stopped and the clouds broke offering blue skies. With my camera over my shoulder it was now time for a walk. And, what would I find this morning at my door: a fallen leaf.

    John Wayne

    A John Wayne

They call this drink a John Wayne. It is a shot of expresso, with a touch of vanilla syrup and marked with half-and-half or, preferably, cream. Since vanilla is not my favorite syrup in coffee, I tweaked it a bit and made it half vanilla and half almond. Seemed to do the trick. So, yes some days I start off with a shot. And, I see that today is Hump-Day, so by noon most of society will be half-way done with their work week. For me it’s the first day of my two day weekend. Maybe, I’ll make it a double and have two shots. 🙂 Have a great Wednesday!

    The Scooter

    The Scooter

I bought a new, and larger, disc drive so I’ve been moving images to the new drive.  It’s allowing me to go wander through the archives and what fun it is. I’m finding it interesting how I’m noticing images I don’t even remember taking.  Once I see the image, my mind goes back to those moments. The above image was taken in the French Quarters in New Orleans. I remember seeing three people, just to the right, sitting at a table outside of a restaurant. I can even hear them laughing. And, I have no recollection of the purple wall, that one really surprised me. Kinda cool!

I start a 4 day trip on Saturday morning and hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!

    Showing My Photographs

    Sunrise and Dew

“We are judged, not by the photographs we take, but by the photographs we show.” – Ted Grant

I took my first steps into photography when I was 10 or 12 years old. Yet, it was not until I was 50 before I printed and matted my first print. And, what took me so long to take that step? I’ll suggest it was my belief system. At that time, I believed I was not a good  photographer, at least when I compared my images to those I considered photographers. I now believe in my abilities as a developing photographer and I’m accepting myself.  Both of those factors are nurtured by having this photoblog/website. I’m more comfortable with showing my images and in fact enjoy showing images that I know do not have as much power as others may. I’ll even put up snapshots, like yesterday. So, I’m much more comfortable showing my photographs.
