“We see quite clearly that what happens to the nonhuman happens to the human. What happens to the outer world happens to the inner world. If the outer world is diminished in its grandeur then the emotional, imaginative, intellectual, and spiritual life of the human is diminished or extinguished. Without the soaring birds, the great forests, the sounds and coloration of the insects, the free-flowing streams, the flowering fields, the sight of the clouds by day and the stars at night, we become impoverished in all that makes us human.” Thomas Berry

Our Moods
The thing about kids is that they express emotion. They don’t hold back. If they want to cry, they cry, and if they are in a good mood, they’re in a good mood. Eddie Murphy
Even as an adult I have mood variations. What sets me in a down mood is allowing my mind to enter into commentary with thoughts that are not reality. When I’m able to release those thoughts, letting them drift off and stay present, I experience greater serenity. I’m therefore in a better mood.

Silence
Beneath every sound is silence.
Within every prayer is silence.
Beneath every distraction is silence.
Within your heart and mind is silence. -
Motionless
“Life has a way of being exactly the way it happens to be at any given moment.”
Martin LairdAnd the rabbit is thinking, “If I don’t move he’ll never see me.”

Dewdrop at Sunrise
“We betray our true self, when we do not follow the hearts desire, for what the heart is attracted to, is your destiny.”
Took this image back in 2003, again just after purchasing my D100 and Sigma 105 macro lens. It is one of my favorite images for a couple reasons. One, it was a fluke as I really did not know what I was doing. I remember laying down in the wet grass and shooting without a tripod. I also only have it in JPEG format as shooting in raw was foreign to me. If you look closely you will see the sunrise upside down in the dew drop. Second, I was in the early discovery of a passion that has allowed me to see and experience life with new eyes and that includes all aspects of my life. As the quote states we must pursue what our heart is attracted to.

Sunrise
“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”
BuddhaThis was taken on a road trip back in 2003 about 6 months after purchasing a Nikon D100, my first digital camera. It’s the first of many practice photos iv taken since.

Umph!
“The difference between try and triumph is just a little umph!” -Marvin Phillips
Keeping our eyes always alert allows us to find the “umph.” It shows when we least expect it. I again took one of the cameras for a walk, because I needed the walk. As I passed by this tree I noticed the light illuminating the pinecone in the shadows, making it the subject within a shadowed world. I leaned over the fence, composed, metered, focused and pressed the shutter. I imagined it was quite the sight to see my butt from the street. No one honked at me but I’m sure a few laughed. A little umph.
