    Sunrise in Colorado
    Sunrise in Colorado

No smog in Colorado after yesterdays winds and gusts up to 45 mph. Had to hang on to my hat. Hoping everyone has a wonderful week.

Windmill at Sunset on Pawnee National Grasslands

Pawnee National Grassland is located in the South Platte River basin in remote northern and extreme northeastern Weld County and comprises two parcels totaling 193,060 acres. It is part of the short grass prairie. Due to poor soil and the Dust Bowl it has not had much agricultural invasion. It’s about a two hour drive from my house and one reason. You can probably understand why I have mainly sunset images rather than sunrises. 🙂 Hope you have a super week!

I took this image somewhere between Cowdrey and Walden, Colorado. I had ridden my motorcycle, a BMW1150RT, over Cameron Pass to visit some friends who lived in Cowdrey.  On my way home I noticed this view and needed to stop, take it in and get my camera out. Sometimes I really miss that motorcycle.

    Chasing Clouds

As the storm clouds were building up in the northeast yesterday afternoon, I grabbed the camera and tripod and headed that way. This storm had some strength as the tail winds were quite powerful making it difficult to steady the camera. There were lightening strikes in the mists of the clouds which gave me an idea on capturing them. I decided to make an experiment with my camera using the interval timer. I closed my aperture down to f22 and set my ISO to 200 to get as long an exposure as I could for each shot. I then was set up my camera to shoot an image every 5 seconds for as many images as I wanted.  No such luck but I think it will work and I’ll try it again some time. Has anyone ever done this before? I did enjoy my time away from the city noise and watching nature show off.

Next week I will be house sitting for a couple of friends in their straw bale house and 40 acres of prairie. Just me and the chickens for a week at The Prairie House.

The weatherman was right. They predicted thunderstorms for yesterday afternoon and sure enough clouds  built up in the west over the mountains. It began to rain along the foothills then moved out  out to the east. I took the above image at the Cathy Fromme Nature Area then drove out east in anticipation of some good clouds. But I watched the storm build up and obscure the mountains with a refreshing half inch rain. And the plants are loving it. It was all good and the weatherman was right.

    Passing Storm

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love.”

    Rumi

The cold wind is blowing right through my coat causing goosebumps and chills. I’m shaking. But nature is sharing its light show as the setting sun shines on the foreground in contrast to the dark and ominous clouds on the eastern horizon. Something pulls me to stay and take it all in. It can’t be explained but it feels good inside my soul to be outside the noisy city. I’m cold.
