I keep telling myself I must practice more portraits. I tell myself that because I enjoy people and the challenge of lighting and posing. I’ve always felt there are certain photographers who have a knack for relaxing the models and therefore bring out the personality of the person. Only practice will let me know if I have such a gift. This was taken back in February on portrait session with a young man named Dan.

“Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don’t have to like it… it’s just easier if you do.” Katie Bryon

I like people. I like photography. I like putting them together. Its fun pointing a camera and lens at people and then pressing the shutter button. I like the interaction I can have with them, watching them relax as the session moves along, watching them laugh, move to create poses. If done right, its fun for all and  good images will present themselves.

    Yes, I know…

… you’ve seen this guy before. And, yes, I also know he’s not as pretty as Tracy, but, believe it or not, he does have some good qualities. Here’s a couple of examples: 1) he’s easy to coax in front a camera, just offer him chocolate, 2) he does just about everything I think he should do and sometimes more, so the interactions good. Of course he’s not perfect and there are a few character defects that are being worked on. He does one thing that bothers me, though. After every shot he has this tendency to run around behind the camera and chimp the LCD looking at the histogram and his expression. He will sometimes grimace and make strange looking faces, maybe a grunt or two, then suggests we try it again. He could also use a haircut!
