    Cloudless Horizon

We must be true inside, true to ourselves, before we can know a truth that is outside us.

    Thomas Merton

I finished my taxes yesterday. My taxes are pretty easy because I do not have the millions that some of you have to deal with. I just enter zeros and I’m done. 😁

I’ve been working on a couple of ongoing writing and photography projects the last few days and plan on more of that today. Drove to Pineridge Natural Area early this morning for predawn colors before having a mocha latte at Mugs. I’m usually not too excited with cloudless skies but this morning was an exception. Hope you are being true to yourself today!

    Within 15 Feet

    Shirts: Gotta Look Dapper
    Shirts: Gotta Look Dapper

I read somewhere about an exercise where we needed to focus on seeing subjects within 15 feet of our bed. So on a rainy day it seemed as good a day as any and we had nice diffused light. There was more to see but three images is enough to bore you.

This exercise could also be an ongoing project. Just thinking, yes I know that’s dangerous, that maybe setting aside one day a month or a week and look around my room to see what presents itself.

    Cold Bench

    A Cold Bench

A simple project I did a few years ago was to  take and post an image of a bench each day for a complete month. Every since that exercise my eye has been drawn to benches so I keep adding images to the subject (keyword). With the snowfall and cold we’ve had it is more difficult to get out but some days I just have to get out there. This bench is not as inviting as it is in the warmer seasons but it is one of my favorite subjects.

    Here's my version

    A Fork

It’s not my desire to copy another photographers work but to create my own unique images. However, there are those assignments we can give ourselves that will copy or at least be very similar another’s images. That’s what this is all about. It’s my version of the all familiar studio image of the kitchen fork on a white background. With this exercise I experimented with some lighting and got more hands on time with my macro lens, a lens I don’t use often. My question for all you gurus out there who happen to find my blog is: How often do you give yourself assignments or projects? And, what are some of those? What’s their purpose? Are we wanting to learn something specific or just copying someone’s work?
