    Autumn

A couple of the last summer flowers of the season from a morning walk

I awoke to look out my window and see a heavy dew on everything. Yes, the mornings are getting cooler. The present temperature of 50 degrees is letting me know fall is quickly approaching. My weather app tells me we may see night time lows in the 40’s this weekend, the first of the fall season. We call this season Autumn and it marks the transition from summer to winter for the northern hemisphere, traditionally set  to begin on September 21. Autumn brings on the chill of winter, skies turn grey, the amount of usable daylight drops rapidly, leaves change colors and begin their journey of decent leaving trees to look naked and bare. My bicycle rides to coffee will become brisk and invigorating, heavier clothing and gloves will be the new normal. Throughout the day the skies are filling with sounds of Canada Geese as they fly by looking for that perfect spot to spend the winter, nature’s version of the snowbird. Time to welcome Autumn, one of my favorite seasons.

    Signs of Fall

    Signs of Fall
    Signs of Fall

We all know the signs of the approaching fall season. We have football games now on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We put the shorts back in the bottom draw of the dresser. Starbucks comes out with their Pumpkin Spice Latte. Stores are putting out Halloween candy and Christmas decorations. We have cooler nights. The days begin to shorten. Squadrons Canada Geese are heading south. Leaves begin to change colors and fall from their branches. Fall is approaching.

    Changes: In our lives

    Fall Colors
    Fall Colors

Nature goes through the seasons of changes. In early autumn, in response to the shortening days and declining intensity of sunlight, leaves begin the processes leading up to their fall. The veins that carry fluids into and out of the leaf gradually close off as a layer of cells forms at the base of each leaf. These clogged veins trap sugars in the leaf and promote production of anthocyanins. Once this separation layer is complete and the connecting tissues are sealed off, the leaf is ready to fall. The end of one season.

We to, go through changes every day of our lives. I am also going through changes in my life. I am getting another roommate as my other roommates have new base assignments. There is the chance I may also move in the next few months.

As the leaves change colors and fall from their branches during the autumn season it reminds me of the changes in my life. I look forward to both the fall colors and changes that will transpire in my life. How about you?

    Christmas Tree at the Mall

    Christmas Tree in the Mall
    Christmas Tree in the Mall

It is the season when shopping centers, churches, schools, offices are putting up trees and Easton Town Center is no exception. I ran to the Apple store in the mall and found this tree lit up and shoppers walking around in the rain. Pulled out the camera and took a couple of shots. High ISO so it is grainy.
