    Sacred Manuscript

There is One Holy Book, the sacred manuscript of nature, the only scripture which can enlighten the reader. . . . All scriptures before nature’s manuscript are as little pools of water before the ocean.

Hazrat Inayat Khan, “There Is One Holy Book”

This was taken yesterday morning at Pineridge Natural Area. You can see the smoke along the eastern horizon, looking dirty and ugly while blue sky above. Today the smoke is worse and there is no blue sky to be seen. We are unable to see the mountains in the west. The National Weather Service says the smoke is too high in the atmosphere to cause any respiratory concerns but it is visible. If you are interested here is a link to the Canadian Wildland Fire Information website. It is interactive and will show some interesting facts on the fires. The fires are the result of a heat wave pattern — described as an “omega block” by meteorologists. So, if we read nature’s manuscript correctly it is telling us that man’s impact on the climate is taking a toll. Just saying!

Meeting my grandson, Daryian, today for lunch at Hooters. His idea and should be fun. I hear they serve food there, also.

    A Psychic Change

Ominous clouds at Reservoir Ridge Natural Area

“I used to think the top global environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that with 30 years of good science we could address these problems. But I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy, and to deal with these we need a spiritual and cultural transformation, and we scientists don’t know how to do that

    James Gustave (Gus) Speth

This is one of my favorite places to sit in quiet and journal. It is at the south end of Reservoir Ridge Natural Area and is about a mile from Overland Trail road. So, with the trees between me and the road there is virtually no traffic noise, just the music of nature. Directly behind me is beautiful Claymore Lake and the trailheads off to my right. I’m posting this quote because I believe he is spot on. Our environmental problems will only happen when a psychic change occurs. Because there are some people deeply rooted in selfishness, greed and apathy, who will look at this scene and not see an open meadow untouched by a plow, but they will see an object for exploitation, not a living, breathing ecosystem.

    Peace is an inside job

“World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion.”

    Dalai Lama XIV

We’re expecting another spring like day, temperatures into the 60s. So nice that I don’t need to scrape frost off the windshield.

World turmoil is still the news of the day. Lots of prayers being said for the people of Ukraine and our world leaders. I didn’t watch State of the Union address last night but did read most of it this morning. I’m beginning to believe stronger than ever that to have peace and love in our world, to stop our negative impact on nature, to eliminate all the lies, there needs to be a manifestation of human compassion. I’ll go with the Dalai Lama’s option because it resonates with me. Have a super Awesome day!
