Watching the Sunset

Watching the Sunset

Every once in a while we will read a post about someone struggling with posting or shooting, in a slump or busy with other things. And, I suspect we all can relate. For me this period has been longer than any from the past. I don’t carry my DSLR as much but prefer the smaller and lighter G12 in my small backpack with my journal and Kindle 2. Even my mood is in a funk. I found myself getting upset easier and sometimes at inanimate objects. Can you relate?

Fallen Leaves

Fallen Leaves

As I mentioned in my last post, when going for our walks, we will sometimes see those things we walk by many times before but have never seen. But, at other times, we will visually see those things that weren’t there the last time we walked that same path. It could be a new sign placed in a store window, road or sidewalk construction, a rainbow after the rain, a broken tree branch from a storm, a cottontail rabbit munching on grass, or fallen leaves on the pavement from strong winds, such as above.

Nuts and Bolts

Nuts and Bolts

One more walk around my hotel and I see something I had not seen before. Missed it. Strange what each of us will see as we walk around with a camera. So many factors determine what we will find in our viewfinder. How rested we are. Are we present to the moment or lost in thought? Our health. Our spiritual state.

Check Your Socks

Wrong feet? No wonder!

At the end of the day when you can finally sit down and take your shoes off, check those socks. It may be the answer to why the day was rougher than usual. And we try to blame others. :-)

Harbor Fish Market

Harbor Fish Market

I miss some of the overnights we had on our east coast flying. Having an overnight in Portland, Maine with enough time to head down to the harbor and enjoy a bowl of fresh chowder or fresh lobster. Won’t find this in Wichita or Des Moines or Omaha.

White Bucket

The White Bucket

I haven’t been walking as much lately because I’m having trouble with the sciatic nerve in my left hip. This is due to the scoliosis I’ve had in my lower back for most of my life and is a sign its getting worse. The soreness and aching in my back has been something I’ve accepted but this pain my hip has bothered me enough to see a doctor.

The trip to doctor and x-rays shows the real condition: 40 degree curve in the lower lumbar and outward twist of my spine on my left side. I have deterioration in all five discs and bone spurs. After showing me the x-rays he told me the options I face. Unfortunately none of those options will fix my back but they can help me restore some health to my body. He then asked me what “I” wanted to do. I liked that! So, I start therapy and an education program. My work involves primarily standing and walking on a moving aircraft. We never just stand or walk as if we were on a sidewalk because of the constant movement of the aircraft. I have much more to do in this life and need my health to attain those dreams.

End of Day

Sunset on the Tarmac

As I normally do after finishing a trip I stepped out on the tarmac to catch the employee bus to my car. This evening I stood in awe and took the scene in. A smile formed as I enjoyed the last few rays and warmth of the setting sun. I really did not care if the was a bit late. As tired as I was I reached in bag and pulled out the G12 and took a few images. I did not care about the exposure as I knew I could not justify what I felt at that moment. It was just a nice way to end the day.

Blue Eyes

Mother and Son

I would like to take credit for this image but it is not my image. A few years ago my sisters and I gathered some images of family and created a group of images to give our parents for one of those digital picture frames. This was one of this images we used. I played with it and wanted to add it to last weeks images of children. Love those blue eyes.
