    Tremble Court

    Passing Through Tremble Court
    Passing Through Tremble Court

Tremble Court is a small store in the Old Town Square. Three walkways meet at the store’s front door, one  being an alley. As I was walking through Tremble Court towards the square I noticed this woman walking towards the court from the alley. I walked past the three way intersection while composing an image in my head. I then stopped and turned to wait for her to pass through. She is coming from the direction of a homeless shelter and with her heavy bags I assumed her to be homeless. I took two images as she walked by. She was carrying what I assume to be all she had. Her body is stooped over due to a bad back, heavy bags or both.  When I see homeless people who only own what’s on their back it causes me to realize all that I have.

    Happy Thanksgiving

    The Homeless
    The Homeless

“You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fullness of your joy and in your days of abundance.”  ― Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

With overnight temperatures staying somewhere in the mid to high 20’s for the past few days we are seeing ice form on the pond at my condo. Canada Geese are arriving from the north and are walking on the frozen ponds. They also are walking on sidewalks so we now must watch where we step. We are cleaning frost off the windshield almost every morning. In other words it is getting colder each night.

A couple days ago I noticed this homeless man sleeping near Old Town and it caused me to think about all that I have to be thankful for. Each morning I have the chance to wake up in a warm comfortable bed, eat a warm breakfast, take a warm shower. Not everyone has that opportunity. I will not bore you with a long list of things I’m thankful for but will share this short list. I’m thankful for my health, my family, my friends and those who are both, this blogging community, clean underwear, a home, a car, work, photography, gifts of nature, coffee shops, and of course chocolate.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

    I met Lloyd here

    A Place of Quiet

I found this Catholic church while on a walk during one of our overnights. Anytime I see stained glass windows from the outside I want to venture inside. It was mid-afternoon and no one was there, just silence. I like silence so I found a pew in the back row, made the sign of the cross and sat down for some quiet time. After a few minutes I heard someone walking around behind me. With my eyes still closed, I felt a light tap on my shoulder and a voice saying, “Excuse me, brother. My name is Lloyd.” I turned around and looked into the eyes of a homeless man. He apologized for interrupting my quiet meditation, then proceeded to tell me he was unemployed and needing money.  As he left I watched as he stepped into an elevator off to the side. He seemed to know that church. Anyway, I found my much needed quiet time and met Lloyd. Hope you are enjoying your Sunday.

    Lost in Thoughts

    Homeless
    Homeless

I don’t know all of his story but he did tell me he had just been “kicked out.” I asked no more personal questions but continued small talk about the area. He was in good spirits and showed no stress considering his situation. He mentioned about moving to California and looking for work. In this economic environment it is not the best of times to be homeless and looking for work. At one point during our conversation he stared off into space, lost in his thoughts. I felt his pose at that moment would make a good image so I asked if I could take his photograph. He agreed and the only pose I asked him to do was the one where he looked off in space. He will face a lot in the coming days. We do have more homeless than we think.
