    Storm Clouds

    Storm Clouds

The disappearance of a major natural unit of vegetation from the face of the earth is an event worthy of causing pause and consideration by any nation.  Yet so gradually has the prairie been conquered by the breaking plow, the tractor, and the overcrowded herds of man…that scant attention has been given to the significance of this endless grassland or the course of its destruction.  Civilized man is destroying a masterpiece of nature without recording for posterity that which he has destroyed.

    – John Ernest Weaver, North American Prairie (1954)

    A Morning Walk

    The Potomac River

It was warm and muggy. After the short walk the sweat on my body was causing my shirt to stick to my back. When the wind blew the coolness felt good. It was quiet morning, very few people were out and yet it was after 8:00 am. The empty park felt as if it was all mine. In my imagination all the empty benches were calling me to sit and rest. So, I picked one. I wrote a few thoughts and observations in my moleskin, enjoying the peacefulness of the small park. I also took a few shots of what I saw to help document the moment. It was a good morning walk.

    Aaachooo!

    A Dusting of Pollen

A few days ago my sister and I noticed the petals of her flowers and the leaves, along with her lawn chairs, and everything else was covered with a golden dusting of pollen. Excitedly I grabbed the little G12 and crawled around in her yard. First over here the over there. I didn’t really care if I got any keepers, and I didn’t, but I was having fun, feeling like a little kid.

    Home Run

    Home Run

We were in Seattle on Memorial Day and arrived early enough to attend a Mariners ball game. It’s been a few years since I attended a baseball game. In the above image, Mark Reynolds of the Baltimore Orioles is connecting on a home run in the third inning of the game. It also shows how I’m not used to the shutter lag on this camera. We left in the 7th inning and headed for Pikes Market for some people watching, shopping and seafood. 🙂 It was a great day!

I’m off to the skies today. Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend! Maybe even go to a ball game. 🙂
