Consuming My Average

Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola

I seldom drink any sort of sodas. I have not really enjoyed them for several years. However, while I was working as a flight attendant I would sometimes take a sip just because it was there. I have not drank a full can for years. An article in Business Insider states, “carbonated soft drinks have declined in the US, from nearly 53 gallons per capita at its peak in 1998 to 41 gallons per capita in 2014.”  In my google search I also found that the products of The Coca-Cola Company are consumed at the rate of more than 1.8 billion drinks per day. If those massive numbers are correct then someone is consuming my average.

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

I generally gave up all soft drinks several years ago over concerns about high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners (and other ingredients). I occasionally have some with a mixed drink but can’t tell you the last time I had a whole bottle or can. I have to agree with your statement about the averages – those averages are awfully high, and even if everyone only consumed the average it would still be a lot. Considering that I don’t think we’re alone on the low end of the bell curve I can only imagine what those on the other end are consuming. Of course the cynic in me says that we can identify them walking down the street, but that isn’t really fair. Next we can talk about sodium…. 😉
