Waiting on the Bus
Waiting on the Bus

I took several images of this young student waiting for the bus at the transit center on campus. At first I thought she was reading the college newspaper that’s in her hand but realized she was on her phone. She came and sat down behind me on the rock bench oblivious to much of her surroundings. I do not believe she was aware of me so I was able to take a half dozen shots. Nor can she hear anything around her.  As I watched, it dawned on me she was sitting where they had glued those chocolate candy bars that I posted an image of a few weeks ago. They’ve removed the candy bars but the glue is still there and it’s tacky. I had to smile because I am very much like her in that I can get lost in my thoughts or my phone and not be present to the moment.

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

Ordinarily I’d say that she’s also oblivious to the weather, but I see you’ve been having unseasonably warm temperatures. I worry just a bit seeing someone so disconnected from the real world, afraid she might walk out in front of a bus instead of getting on it! And she obviously forgot part of her outfit. ;). Funny thought about the candy bars… I remember that story!

To be truthful it was her attire that first caught my attention. She is wearing fishnet stockings with the shorts. And, as we all seem to do, we judge her by appearance and many times are way off the mark. She could be a post doc teaching on campus, listening to an audio book and making notes on her second book. 🙂
