A Beautiful Spring Day

inspired by a beautiful spring day
I caught the Max to campus

with an iced chai, I found a spot surrounded
by the quiet of the campus courtyard

soaking in the silence, I began listening
and writing words in my journal

abruptly, the quiet became chaos
as students poured out of classrooms

now surrounded by every size, shape, color
of student and backpack imaginable

conversations exploded everywhere,
gossip, tales from last night and laughter.

then gently, peace and quiet returned
as everyone moved on to their next period.

and in this quiet I wondered,
how many saw the daffodils?

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

You’ve been having some interesting weather out there, although typical for your spring. We were in the upper 80s today. Pretty toasty for April.

I love your description of the ebb and flow of the students between classes. Good to know that the hubbub is short-lived!

Yes we’re having some very interesting weather. Beautiful morning with clear skies and sunshine. This afternoon we have clouds, wind, and possible rain later tonight. And, I didn’t mention that some students were wearing earbuds or headsets and walking around looking at their phone.

You’ve described the scene so well, I could imagine being there. Unless a daffodil appeared on their phone, I doubt any of them saw the beauty of nature.

Thank you, Faye. You made me laugh because you may be correct, unless the daffodils were on their phones they may not notice them. My criticism of them and their devices is also a criticism of my overuse of my phone. At times it can be a black hole that can take several minutes to escape. 😂 I am not better then them!!!
