A Farmers Life

Darryl working on the irrigation system
Daryl working on the irrigation system

I’ve been traveling a bit and without internet. It’s been nice, actually. Visiting family in the Texas/Oklahoma panhandle area. I have several cousins who work hard at farming in that area. One morning I went with Daryl to check on his irrigation systems. Farming is one of those seven days a week jobs and is hard work.  The corn in this field was wet with dew so both of us were pretty wet by the time we were back at the truck. I admire their work ethics.

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

While this is a technically excellent photo, for me it exemplifies the beauty of the open range. I’ve never been to Texas or Oklahoma (unless the DFW airport counts – it doesn’t!) but the lush green, amazing sky and that tabletop flat horizon…wow! I love the angle of the irrigation equipment stretching into the distance and the smallness of Darryl against that big old backdrop. I hope I’m making sense but I really like this photo, Monte!

I’m feeling kind of spoiled with my 3-day weekend. 🙂

Thanks, Tom. It is a land of vast open spaces. And, Darryl is somewhere around 6′ 4″ tall, so he’s not small by any means. He played college football before marriage and farming.

That irrigation system looks like it goes on forever.

I like travelling without the Internet. I did just that in the US and it was exceptionally relaxing. And though I enjoy it when I use it, I didn’t even miss it.
