Here is the same image as yesterday only in color and another quote.

“We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption, that what is good for the world will be good for us. And that requires that we make the effort to know the world and learn what is good for it.” Wendell Barry

There are so many ways to interpret that, Monte. “Knowing the world” means different things to different people. As individuals we owe it to ourselves to “know the world and learn what is good for it” but that doesn’t mean imposing our own will or our ideals. In many ways I feel that what is best for us as individuals is what matters most. While on the surface that appears to be a selfish approach, I feel like as long as we take care of our own yards it’s up to everyone else to take care of theirs. But of course the result of that is that we end up doing what is good for the world. It’s almost and chicken-and-egg argument, isn’t it?

One the things I enjoy about posting quotes is the response I get to read. I am learning as I grow older and have a better awareness of all of creation and it’s interconnectedness, hope that’s a valid word. It’s become a question of “us” rather than a me or it.
