    Waiting for my attention…

Once we discover that the ‘book of nature’ is an ancient idea—that this really was God’s first way of reaching out to us—then it’s like we’re stepping into this giant prayer book when we step out into the natural world. This makes it impossible for me to be anywhere in creation, now, and not be aware of this God who is crouching down low, just waiting for my attention.

    A perfect day…

I spent some time on a walk around the Environmental Learning Center yesterday. The sky was putting on quite the display of clouds as predicted rain began moving into the area. I had not been there since January and a lot had changed. The Poudre Trail bicycle path now runs alongside the center then heads east all the way to Greeley. I was also surprised to see how much dead and fallen trees there were inside the center. I loved the solitude! The rain did come, a nice gentle moisture rich rain. Even had some thunder with it. This morning is bright with clear skies and sunshine. Perfect day to ride to coffee.

By my intimacy with nature I find myself withdrawn from man. My interest in the sun and the moon, in the morning and the evening, compels me to solitude.

    It is everywhere

    Storm clouds over Watson Lake

“Peace will come to the hearts of men when they realize their oneness with the universe. It is everywhere.”

    Black Elk

This morning we had intermittent rain and snow showers and much colder temperatures than I wanted. Last Thursday I had an echocardiogram done. About 10 am today I had a CT Scan and will know the results next week. And, I am having a TEE (Transesophageal Echocardiogram) procedure next Thursday. These tests are to check out how the aortic valve is functioning after two years. Notice how I talked about the weather in one sentence then the next four talking about my old guy medical issues. 😂 Enjoy your weekend! And it is snowing now!

    Storm Clouds

Setting sun and storm clouds over the Colorado Front Range – June 2012

There is nothing more beautiful than living a simple life in this complex universe!

    Mehmet Murat ildan

I awoke to a dusting of snow and cold this morning. After my quiet time I checked the election results. I am unable to express the feelings I experienced at such a deep level within me. So, my task today, and maybe for some time, has been to journal in hopes of uncovering my feelings, thoughts, and the words to express them. At this moment I find it amazing to accept that in this divided nation I find myself a minority in my beliefs and values. I will do my best to continue to live a simple life, yet also be true to myself, my beliefs and my values. May all who can allow the love and light within them shine in our world, no matter the storm clouds on the horizon. And, may we all find inner peace.

And, outside my window a cold wind blows indicative of our nations emotions.

    An Artist of Our Days

Clouds on my walk at Reservoir Ridge Natural Area.

Each of us is an artist of our days; the greater our integrity and awareness, the more original and creative our time will become.

    John O’Donohue

It’s taken a few years to see myself as any sort of an artist. That was primarily because I believed in that voice telling me I wasn’t. And yet, I always had those dreams of what could be. So, I can regretful, remorseful for listening to that negative voice or be the artist of my remaining days. I am doing what I can to be the creative I can be. And, I do that one day at a time, learning from each failure. I also believe everyone is an artist of their days! It is through your shares and your blogs that I know some of you are painting, gardening, flying drones, learning new forms of art, traveling and more. Happy Wednesday!

Its self and its form are one…

Ominous clouds and rain at the Trailhead

The poet wants to drink from the well of origin; to write the poem that has not yet been written. In order to enter this level of originality, the poet must reach beyond the chorus of chattering voices that people the surface of a culture. Furthermore, the poet must reach deeper inward; go deeper than the private hoard of voices down to the root-voice. It is here that individuality has the taste of danger, vitality and vulnerability. Here the creative has the necessity of inevitability; this is the threshold where imagination engages raw, unformed experience. This is the sense you have when you read a true poem. You know it could not be other than it is. Its self and its form are one.

    John O’Donohue

I felt a bit restless and leaning on the discontent side of things Sunday afternoon. I would say it’s what O’Donohue calls “the private hoard of voices” that sometimes hang out in my head. My solution was some journaling time, a walk at Reservoir Ridge Natural Area and connecting to the poem of nature (I like that phrase). After journaling I decided I better get a walk in before it rained as the wind had picked up and darker clouds slowly moved in. Good timing as It began sprinkling by the time I walked back to the car but it never did rain. I have been fascinated by some wonderful clouds this spring and Sunday was another day for them. I accepted the gift nature offered me and now offer it to you!

    The voices of the rain…

“I close my eyes and listen to the voices of the rain.”

    Robin Wall Kimmerer

The wind blows in my face. Mesmerized, I watch, listen and accept the day’s gift from nature. I am privileged and grateful to have this front row seat. I watch the sun’s rays break through clouds, reaching down and touching the earth. I watch rain fall from the dark ominous clouds releasing their gift that nourishes the land. I watch the wind constantly reshaping the clouds, carrying them along the mountains. I watch the grass dancing excitedly in the wind in front of me. I am too far away to hear the voices of the rain but I do close my eyes and listen to the voice of the wind, urging me to dance with the grass. How can I not be filled with awe and wonder, holding them tightly on this Earth Day 2024.

A Prayer on Earth Day 2024

We give thanks for Your gifts of awe, wonder and beauty.
For Your voice heard in the winds of each season,
the meadowlark’s song, the rumble of thunderstorms,
the undulations of the ocean’s waves,
the silence heard in a spring snowstorm,
and especially for the fruits of Your bounty
    that sustains all of life.

May we always be aware there are no political solutions
to our spiritual problem of indifference and the abuse we cause.
But may we know we are chosen stewards,
whose task it is to live in harmony with all of creation.

May we live every day in celebration and gratitude of life!
May we allow You to transform us in the very ground of our being.
And, may the Great Mystery of all life fill us with love.
