“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” ― John Steinbeck

I’ve had enough. Winter is not my favorite season. That may sound strange coming from someone who has lived most of his life in Colorado. Yes, I know, winter has much to offer for those who are brave enough to bare the cold. I do not ski, downhill or cross country, but I do enjoy snowshoeing. It’s more my speed.

I remember as a teenager going the fair grounds where the city would flood one of the older buildings with a couple inches of water, let it freeze, making a skating rink out of it. After taking several laps, and our hands were cold, we’d stop and warm ourselves at the large wood burning stove. Good memories.

I am heading for warmer temperatures, Phoenix to be exact, with anticipation of celebrating my dad’s 84th birthday on the 17th. Heck their lows have only been in the mid 30’s. The above image was taken last winter on one of those cold mornings along County Road 26. I’m out of here.

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

It was 27 degrees this morning in Gold Canyon. The retirees were out in stocking caps, heavy coats and gloves for their morning walks. It is still warmer than the -2 degrees I saw back in Colorado this morning. I’ll pass along your birthday wishes to my dad. Have a super week.

I used to love winter – the quiet beauty of snow, going to the mountains to ski. Now, it’s my least favorite season – I don’t ski anymore and the cold seems to get to me worse than ever.

    Great Steinbeck quote.

    Enjoy your father’s birthday!

Happy Birthday to you dad! Have a wonderful visit.

I had to chuckle at your comment that you are already sick of winter. Add my my name to that club roster! I was sick of it sometime last week. I so much prefer the other seasons. If I were able to travel easily, I would prefer to spend about one week out of four of the winter in the mountains.

This photo surely tugs at my heart strings. I can’t really say what it makes me feel, but it holds me.

I like winter too, but not this cold. It was 12 F last night and 6 the night before. I can’t blame you for bailing. I’ve been having visions of palm trees and sandy beaches myself, though there’s no possibility of me getting out of here any time soon. If I do it will probably be to go to Colorado. Yikes.
