Listening

Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.

As the wind loves to call things to dance,
May your gravity be lightened by grace.

Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth,
May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.

As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.

As silence smiles on the other side of what’s said,
May your sense of irony bring perspective.

As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.

May your prayer of listening deepen enough
to hear in the depths the laughter of god.

Another cold morning of 5 degrees at 6:30 am. Sometimes on mornings like this I wonder if I need to move to a warmer climate. Then realize we really do not have days like this very often. Even though you may hear me whine I still can manage to rise before dawn, have my quiet time then go to sacred places to experience the predawn light and sunrise or meander to a coffee shop or both. I live a good life with all its difficulties and joys. I have much to be grateful for. And when I do hear myself whine I am able to listen deeply enough to hear and experience God laughing with me and within me. I’m then not as cold. The image is pre dawn light at Pineridge Natural Area taken last week because this morning I only meandered to the coffee shop. 😂

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

Our tolerance for temperatures is all relative, isn’t it? Kathy & I got home from Florida on Monday and went for a walk. We found ourselves talking about how ‘cold’ 50 degrees felt! Yes, we all have a few days where it is either too hot or too cold. I hope to not see too many 7 (or less!) degree days, but I suppose I have more 95 degree days that others would find uncomfortable. I also sometimes wonder about moving somewhere warmer, but then I would have to deal with more ‘too hot’ days instead of a few ‘too cold’ days.

Seems like we are hard to please, wanting it perfect all the time. I heard someone say that there is no perfect place to live. The real cold is coming this week when Thursday’s high will be 4 degrees. Brrr! Stay warm!
