Self-portraits

Reflecting

Reflecting

There is no desire to be outside as it is cold and therefore this self-portrait and short post. We received 5 inches of snow starting on Tuesday evening and on into Wednesday. I so enjoy the silence of falling snow, another one of the gifts of nature to heal and refresh. But along with the snow comes the colder temperatures as they dropped into the single digits on Wednesday night, 7 degrees. By afternoon we were up to 38 but quickly dropping fast back into the teens for the overnight low and we are expecting this pattern for the next 3-4 days. So last night I setup the camera for a couple of self-portraits while enjoying the Christmas tree lights, the silence and a bit of reflection.

Today is also my youngest granddaughters birthday, so Happy Birthday Madie! I love you!

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

I had a similar day on Wednesday, as we had rain all day; however, I didn’t do the self portrait – this is why you remain the king of self portraits. All hail the king! 😉

And, big Happy Birthday to Madie!

I’ll trade you the rain for the 7 degrees. I’ll even throw in some chill factor for you. 🙂 I remember your self portrait from a few weeks ago that was awesome. You need to do some more of those.

I’ve taken self-protraits 3 times in my life and two of those times were assignments. It’s a personal struggle for me and I admire those that can do it well. Nice shot.

I find it a challenge and lots of fun to create self portraits. Making the same image all the time gets old so the challenge is to come up new ideas. I fail at that. However, I’ve done a crazy things with this exercise. Plus, I learn a few technical things about lighting and the use of flash. Thanks, Ken!

I tried a self-portrait once. Frightened me so badly I never tried again…

Merry Christmas Monte. Glad you survived the end of the world.

I do not like to drive in it either or shovel it or clean off the car. I’m one who likes to watch it fall. Stand there and let snowflakes land on my face and tongue. Simple kids stuff.

I agree that there are few things more soothing than the quiet of a snowy evening. I used to enjoy going out in it, and probably would here, too, if we were to have actual snow like you get.

I think Paul & I (and Earl) are going to have all the cold (in NC terms) we want the next few days. Supposed to be in the low 20s tonight. No snow in the forecast, though.

I hope you have a great weekend and a fantastic Christmas with as many of your family members as you can!

Reflection is one of the great revelations of beauty in life, as long as it isn’t overdone. Most people, however, do it too little, in my opinion. Perhaps it is one of the contributors to wisdom too, which shows in your self-portraits. I don’t know how you can do them without feeling self-conscious, except that you’ve developed the skill of self-portraiture, which also shows.

Not sure about the skill of self-portrait but I usually enjoy working on them. I have struggled for years on whether I reflect too much or too little. Yet, as I age I’m more comfortable with my reflection/meditation/prayer time. And, Merry Christmas to you!
