    I’m okay with a dirty car…

Beautiful clouds in the eastern sky along Weld County Road 90

When I’m restless it usually means I need to get out of town, so I did. I have been doing a lot of reading lately and some has been heavy stuff. I headed east to favorite spot along Weld County Road 90, turned the car off and just listened. Total quiet. Ahhh! I could feel the change within my soul. About the only sound I heard was the wind and a few Canada Geese as they passed overhead.  Healing was taking place. Seems I am needing more of the quiet and for longer periods of time.

The roads however were muddy which means my car is now dirty. Actually, I think a car needs to be dirty and I do not say that because I’m lazy. Ironically, as I drove out there I passed one of the car washes and there must have been 20-30 cars in line. I questioned in my mind the need for them to waste good water. Yes, I’m okay with a dirty car.

    An evolving practice…

    Cold Winter Sunset

There was a time when my nightly routine would be to watch the news and then head off to bed. But, I became aware that I was filling my mind with plenty of junk prior to my time in dreamland, which was mentally unhealthy and I’m not talking about the commercials. That routine was abandoned over 25 years ago, so was the television. I now have an evolving practice that includes a quiet time where I sit in silence and then a time to reflect over the days events. I look at how I lived my day. What were the positive things I did and what were the negative things? It is through this evolving practice where I look for ways to improve in how I live this short and precious life.

    The Chair

    The Chair

I acquired a new chair about 4 weeks ago. It’s a recliner/rocker and fits my posterior nicely. someone was throwing it away so I hauled it upstairs, bought some upholstery cleaner, scrubbed it down with a sponge, vacuumed it out and poof, we have a new chair for me. Looks like new! One of the things I miss about my condo back in Colorado was the bay window in my bedroom that faced southeast. I enjoyed spending my mornings sitting in a similar rocker with my latte, having quiet time, or reading, or writing and watching the sun come up. It’s a wonderful way to start my day.

Happy New Years to all my blogging friends!

    Hotel Time

    Hotel Desk
    Hotel Time

Hotel time. As with many who travel with their work, we can find ourselves spending some alone time in our hotel rooms. As I have written about before the desk in our rooms can be a place to relax, journal, read and find quiet time. On this trip I brought along my laptop because of my recurrent training and study.
