There is no mystery about how much I like this photo. It still surprises me when this happens, when a simple photograph of an innocuous and unexceptional scene makes me stop and hold my breath for a while as I take in the simplicity of shapes and lines and highlights and shadows coming together so harmoniously. Give me this over Sony’s or National Geographics’ photo of the year any day.

Looks to me like it could be some kind of multi-tentacled monster. Or just a tree. “The Creature Who Ate the Dorm” maybe?

Actually it’s attacking the school of business building. Student dorms were next.
