Colors of San Antonio

The Hostesses at Michelinos

I spent the 4th of July walking along the San Antonio River in San Antonio, also known as the River Walk. We enjoyed ourselves by people watching, window shopping, taking a boat ride, stuffing ourselves with Mexican food yet leaving room for ice cream and enjoying the colors. No fireworks this year due to the dry conditions.

Chicken Acapulco

We ate at a restaurant called Michelinos/Cafe Ole. I would not recommend them as I felt the price was too high for the service and quality of the meal. This plate does look good but  at fifteen dollars was too pricey. The chicken was so dry I had to cut through it with a knife. But let me tell you the sauce on the chicken had a kick to it, that I liked. We found the tables were too close, making it almost impossible to move without bumping into the table next to us. On a scale of 1-5 I give it a 2.

Give me More

Now this little one was enjoying the food. At first she was mesmerized  with the site and sound of the fajitas her mother had ordered. She would try and grab the steam rolling off the sizzling plate. Mom then gave her small portions of her meal which the little one enjoyed. She would pound on the table to let mom know she wanted more.

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

I love the colors of the first shot. Those are some beautiful and vivid dresses. Too bad about the meal, though. It’s really disappointing to get such a pricey meal and come away dissatisfied.

I visited the River Walk in San Antonio once while I was in the Air Force. I remember it being very beautiful and entertaining as far as people watching goes but I don’t remember much else about it.

From your second photo I’m surprised at the price of the dish…it’s not even plated or presented that well. I guess you were paying for location. 🙂

The avocados were good as was the sauce. After looking the restaurant up on the internet, I discovered there were not very good reports on it. Who’d a thunk it?

I love the vivid colors! Too bad the dining experience was disappointing, but sometimes the ambiance is worth the extra $$.

The ambiance didn’t make it for me. I did enjoy the colorful dresses of the three hostesses, the cheese queso I ordered and the young girl pounding on the table. It was serious business to her. 🙂

I grew up in San Antonio, before the river walk was The River Walk that it became. We ate at a place called Casa Rio, on the river, or an out of the way place called The Mitla. of course, prices, then, were dirt cheap compared to today, but we were there for the food. I think you have a right to expect quite pleasant surroundings and/or outstanding food when paying that much for simple fare.

But, love the fact that you captured some of the color of my hometown. Love the shot of the little one.

The Casa Rio is still there and running fine. In fact they were the originators of the boat rides. They were doing them up until about 6 years ago. They seemed to be the largest of the restaurants, also. If I’m ever back there I will try them out.
