In the spotlight

I had to take my car in to have brakes replaced, so after dropping it off I walked to a nearby coffee shop.  I noticed this young lady working on her computer and loved the light shinning on her like a spotlight. I went to spot metering in an effort to make her the focus and darken the background. As I raised the camera she spotted me. Caught! I lowered the camera and asked if I could take her photo. After getting her approval I suggested she just be natural. Well, that didn’t happen as she knew I was pointing a camera at her. However, I’m pleased with the image.

Retired. Having fun with photography. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

Monte, if you hadn’t told us she caught you I wouldn’t have reconized anything “unnatural” about this scene. It just looks like perhaps she’s reading/viewing something humorous on her phone. Hey, nice job with spot metering for effect and…Happy BD! 🙂

Well, when I wrote natural, I was referring to the serious look she had when focused on the computer. In rights this is probably her natural state. Thanks for the birthday wish and remembering.

That is a cool photo Monte. I do like people shots that focus the attention strongly on the subject while just giving a hint of the environment. Lucky for you she was so agreeable after catching you out. I’ve had occasions where the outcome of being “caught” didn’t turn out so pleasantly 🙂

And happy birthday from me too. I assume it’s belated by now but I wish you an excellent year ahead.
