Thank you for sharing this quote. Sun Bear was a great leader and teacher. The Native Americans have learned to live well and simply through long years of “practice” on the land. We would do well to learn to integrate our own lives and culture more with our surroundings. There may come a time when it is those closest to the Earth that have the best chance of long-term survival.

David, I did get both this comment and your email. To be honest I really do not know the history of Sun Bear but I enjoy reading quotes the Native Americans. They have a lot to say to us, if we would only listen. And, the reality is I must take steps to listen to them and learn from them, regardless of anyone else. I completely agree with your last statement. A couple years ago I dropped off my car for repairs and walked about 3 blocks to a coffee shop to wait. I realized as I walked that I did not touch the earth during that entire walk. I was always separated from the earth by pavement or concrete. 🙁
