The Artist

Behind the facade of image and distraction, each person is an artist in this primal and inescapable sense. Each one of us is doomed and privileged to be an inner artist who carries and shapes a unique world.

John O’Donohue

Baristas are artists. As artists they are a part of the creation of our day because when we walk into a coffee shop, they greet us by name and then provide the drink we want. I consider them an artist because they can make a latte, while carrying on an intelligent conversation with us at the same time. They are artists because of their craft and skill in creating latte art from the crema of steamed milk: the heart or the rosetta with many leafs. I’ve even found myself not wanting to drink my latte and mess up their creation. And as we get to know each other, we get to see that inner beauty in each one of them, the person they are becoming and gift they are to the world. Go ahead, try and tell me that Keera’s smile is not a work of art.

Retired. Having fun shooting Fujifilm cameras. Journal daily. Meditate daily. Learning haiku. Have a love for fountain pens.

I’ve come to believe everyone has unique talents and abilities to different levels; call them what you may, but whether they develop and enjoy them is a combined result of circumstances and choice. When we can embrace and exercise these abilities, we tend to be more authentic to ourselves and perhaps inherently happier.

At the same time, it’s equally important to realize that no one is perfect. Each of us has areas where we struggle and things we may not be as good at. That’s okay – it’s all part of being human.

On many mornings, a tasty and beautiful latte may be more essential and provide someone as much happiness as the grandest music, the swipe of an artist’s brush, or a haunting photo.

The photo and model above are lovely, but the hair hanging in front of my eyes would drive me crazy. ~grin~

I’ve come to believe the same thing about our talents and abilities. Seems I find more of my authentic self and happier when I am creating and that is all areas of my life. My experience has been those who are creating, using their talents and abilities are smiling, enjoying life. I would like to model that! Actually, Keera, made my moch and my day today!!! 😁 Hope you are staying dry out there!
